Escapades of Futura 2000...

This was another eBay find and happens to be a particularly interesting snapshot of musical/cultural history in the early 80's. This track features Futura 2000, name checking famous graffiti writers and graf spots, over a beat by none other than, The Clash (aka Mick Jones), trying to do their best ESG impersonation. Futura is also joined on the mic by two other famous graf writers, Dondi White and Fab 5 Freddy. Below is a pic by Bob Gruen. In the pic are (l-r) Topper Headon (from the Clash), Joe Strummer, Fab 5 Freddy, unidentified person (maybe Celluloid producer Martin Bisi??), Dondi White, Futura, and Mick Jones. Enjoy this trip down memory lane...

Charles Bradley "The Screaming Eagle of Soul" and his Extraordinaires (aka Menahan Street Band)...

Here are a few 45's I picked up at a couple of Charles Bradley shows. Coincidentally, both shows were on 4-20! Go figure. The first 45 I picked up after seeing them at Workplay in Birmingham, AL on April 20, 2012. I was lucky enough to get the last copy of him covering Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold'. He does a massive version of the song and the Menahan Street Band arrangement is a classic! The rest of the 45's I picked up at the Waverly Boogie in Waverly, AL  on 4-20-2013. It also happened to be Auburn A-Day. It was a very special day all around! If you haven't seen Charles Bradley, I recommend you do it as soon as possible. Not only is he an amazing performer, but his band The Extraordinaires, are every bit as amazing. They also record under the name The Menahan Street Band and are responsible for the awesome sample on Jay-Z's 'Roc Boys' song. Download link below. Enjoy...

10 inches of Reggae...

These are all some reggae 10 inches I bought on eBay around Christmas time. Most are from Jo Jo & Earnset Hookim's Channel One Studio and one is from Gussie's Music Works Records label both located in Kingston, Jamaica. All from around 1980-82. Here are the labels from each 10 inch and a link to all the recordings at the bottom...

My first selection...

Here's the first official selection from my own personal collection of records. My collection is extremely diverse and delves into many, many directions and musical genres. I'll start it off with a recent purchase I made on my 39th birthday (1-26-75) about a week ago. It's a 10" from, Omara "Bombino" Moctar, an internationally acclaimed Tuareg guitarist from Agadez, Niger. Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys produced this release as well as his full length release, Nomad. Both on Nonesuch Records. I will be recording all of these straight from my personal vinyl collection, using a TECHNICS M44-7/SURE stylus, a TECHNICS SL-1200 MK2 turntable & a TECHNICS SH-DJ1200 mixer. Enjoy...
